By 2025, the numbers generated by Charms were undeniable: Google searches for “bag charms” surged dramatically, while platforms like Pinterest saw interest skyrocket. Retail data from platforms like JOOR showed sales multiplying exponentially among participating brands, with units sold growing by double-digit multiples in key periods.
The trend's staying power lies in its accessibility; low price points, high margins, and endless customisation options that encourage repeat purchases and social sharing.
From Playful to Purposeful
In 2026, bag charms are no longer just cute add-ons; they've evolved into sophisticated, functional accessories that bridge fashion and utility. The early phase (think oversized furry creatures) has given way to more refined interpretations. Key shifts include:
Repurposed as necklaces: Charms have always had a place on necklaces, but 2026 has brought a strong revival of chaotic, layered styling; with multiple charms stacked and clustered on chains for a more expressive, maximalist everyday look.
Textured and tactile designs: Fuzzy tails (as seen on Chloé's S/S 2026 runway), bold graphics, sleek metals, and subtle leather accents dominate, adding personality without overwhelming maximalism.
Beauty integration: The biggest leap has been into functional beauty: clip-on lipstick cases, solid-fragrance pendants, hand-mist holders, refillable balm pods, and portable scent vials. Brands like Marc Jacobs, The Ordinary, NOYZ, and even mass-market players have launched versions that make beauty portable and personal.
This functional pivot gives the trend real longevity. Charms transform routine acts into moments of self-expression. More importantly, they have become a powerful tool for elevating everyday purchases: brands and retailers now add charms to packaging or offer them as add-ons, instantly turning basic items into something more desirable, giftable, and liftable!
Driving Beauty Retail Forward
The beauty industry has embraced charms as a smart commercial strategy. After years of sameness, shoppers seek objects that feel uniquely theirs. Charms democratise personalisation: small-ticket items with emotional resonance that encourage in-store exploration and online layering. They align perfectly with broader 2026 beauty shifts toward sensoriality, individuality, and wearable innovation; turning accessories into extensions of expression and identity.
Bringing the Charm Trend to Life
Marionnaud partnered with Concept 4 to design and develop an exclusive suite of collectible charms for a special Christmas holiday activation. Offered as a thoughtful gift with purchase to customers who reached a minimum spend, the initiative was highly successful - delighting shoppers and driving strong engagement across stores.
The charms perfectly capture the matured spirit of the trend: collectible, customisable, and deeply rooted in beauty’s core worlds of fragrance, skincare, and personal ritual. Small in scale yet refined in detail, they attach effortlessly to keyrings or layer onto jewellery. Their real power lies in how they instantly elevate a product. Acting as a modern, elevated version of a gift tag, they allow customers to add a personalised touch that turns a standard beauty purchase into something far more desirable, giftable, and special.
This collaboration positions Marionnaud as a forward-thinking beauty retailer that is modernising its appeal. While staying true to its classic heritage, the charms help the brand attract a younger audience through giftability, customisation, and playfulness; all at a surprisingly low cost. They also function as an effective marketing vehicle, subtly showcasing Marionnaud’s logo and signature brand colours whenever customers attach or layer them.
By tying the charms’ collectible appeal to a targeted seasonal promotion and amplifying visibility through high-impact subway campaigns across key European markets, the project generated immediate discovery, in-store traffic, and lasting customer loyalty both offline and online.

The Future of Charms in Retail
The charm movement is far from peaking; it's maturing into a macro accessory category. Expect continued evolution toward bolder, more intentional designs, deeper beauty integrations, and greater emphasis on personal storytelling.
Charms may be small, but they're proving to be one of the smartest ways to stand out in fashion and beauty retail; now and into the coming seasons. Concept 4 also spotlighted this trajectory in our Macro Trend Report for 2027, where the dominance of personalisation emerged as a defining theme, positioning charms and modular accessories as key signals of consumers' shift toward meaningful, individualised expression rooted in identity and emotional resonance.
